The oil in the Sanga Sanga field was lifted with down hole pumps with Ajax engines run off casing head gas. The oil was stored locally in a tank farm and then loaded at an infield terminal to small tankers to be transhipped to a larger offshore tanker as available. Don Prior supervised five drilling rigs with a continuous drilling program for two years. He was responsible for over all field maintenance, updating the geological maps, picking drilling locations, completing and perforating the wells and connecting the new wells to the gathering system.
Don Prior was the Port Superintendent for the Port of Amamapare for Freeport McMoran in Irian Jaya. He was responsible for the daily operations of the port which included over 750 personnel, the loading of approximately 100,000 tons of copper/gold ore per month, the maintenance of the entire fleet of tugs, barges, river boats and personnel craft, the storage and transhipping of all material for the Tembagapura mine located 70 km from the port, the construction of increased facilities, the planned maintenance of the local trucks, cranes, forklifts, front end loaders and the main ore drying kilns. |
